Oxygen Treatment (also known has HBOT or Oxygen Therapy) is the medical use of oxygen in a pressurised environment. Clients breathe pure oxygen through a mask during one hour sessions in our pressurised baraochamber. This increases the oxygen level in the bloodstream, allowing the body to begin healing itself and generating new stem cells. Unlike most drugs, which only treat the symptoms of ailments, Oxygen Treatment enables the body to repair damaged tissues.
The barochamber at MSTC Lothian is a multi-place chamber which can seat up to 8 people, including manual and electric wheelchairs. It was initially installed for use by people with MS who have found that it helps to relieve symptoms such as fatigue, poor balance and mobility and poor bladder control. Oxygen Treatment has also been shown to:
Increase oxygen delivery to injured tissues
Stop further tissue damage
Prevent and/or reduce infection
Improve immune system response
Improve blood vessel formation
Promote wound healing
Increase bone recovery
Improve peripheral nerve regeneration
Eliminate toxic substances
Reduce effects from toxic substances
Increase the effect of some antibiotics
Reduce muscle spasm
Increase muscular force and reduces fatigue
These days, we offer Oxygen Treatment to people with a wide variety of health conditions, including:
